ANGELIQUE KIDJO
AND SPECIAL GUEST MAYRA ANDRADE

Angelique Kidjo is one of Africa’s most powerful and charismatic stars, mixing driving dance rhythms, passionate political lyrics and her own extraordinary stage presence, described by Time Out as “an electrifying cool – as contemporary, stylish and vibrant as it comes”.

Her new EMI album Djin Djin embraces issues of race and culture – following the slave routes from Africa to Brazil and the Caribbean, she creates what the Los Angeles Times called “a fertile musical tree, spreading in all directions, growing from rich rhythmic soil”.

Mayra Andrade brings her full band to London for the first half of this special show. With a voice made to overwhelm souls and sway hearts, this 20 year old artist is a stunning discovery – The Observer said she was “a cosmopolitan delight” when she sold out the ICA in May. Mayra draws on traditional Cape Verdean cadences and the African, Brazilian and jazz scenes of Paris to make her own gorgeous, acoustic sound. Her debut album Navega is out on Sterns to coincide with this concert.

Produced by Serious. Part of New Africa.
