HISTORY OF THE BLACK SPOKEN WORD
& BACKING BEATS FROM AFRICAN STORY TELLING TO MCING
Friday 26 October, 7pm
Queensbridge Sports Centre
Before Dizzee Rascal, there was Tippa Irie. Before Tippa, there was General Saint. Before Saint, there was Ranking Joe. Before Joe, there was U Roy. Before U Roy, there was Miss Lou. Before Miss Lou, there was Brer Anancy. Before Anancy, the word and the drums were one. The legacy now presented has centuries of tradition. Our project both celebrates and examines the legacy of the MC from before slavery until now.
