Speakers’ Corner is a new live music-theatre performance, produced by film and music maverick Don Letts, that seeks a contemporary response to the abolition bicentenary.

Seven cutting edge lyricists, including rapper and poet Skinnyman, human beatboxer Mad Flow and spoken word artist Malika Booker, will examine the concept of slavery in 2007’s multi-cultural generation. From the experience of political asylum through to the influence of hip hop’s bling culture, each writer will question what it means to be free today.

Also touring to Bracknell, Leicester, Huddersfield, Birmingham and Manchester.

A Contemporary Music Network Tour produced by Birmingham Repertoy Theatre in association with the Albany, Deptford and Contact Theatre, Manchester.

Speaker’s Corner is supported by Decibel and Arts Council England.

This performance is part of the London Jazz Festival in association with BBC Radio 3. Also being performed at the Albany, Deptford from 8 – 10 November.
