THE BLACKS
REMIXED

Friday 12 October to Saturday 10 November

The Queen comes to a Command Performance at Theatre Royal Stratford East. But DJ Excalibah and his company of rappers, poets and comedians serve up an entertainment that is nothing like any Royal Variety Show ever seen before!

200 years after the abolition of the Slave Trade Act in the UK and 50 since Ghana gained independence from imperial rule – the event that inspired playwright Jean Genet to write this play – Theatre Royal Stratford East proudly presents one of the most controversial plays ever to hit the stage.

At its heart, The Blacks is about the ill-treatment of black people by white people and the perceptions, or more accurately misperceptions, that one race has about the other. Anarchic, provocative, outrageous – The Blacks is as exciting and entertaining as it is damning and challenging.

Directed by Ultz and Excalibah Translated by Robert David MacDonald
